Didja see the NYT story about Linny Boyette, the "Today" show's "ultimate fan" ?  Aside from the incoherent headline (what exactly does "'Today' and Yesterdays" mean?), I thought the article's description of Boyette in the seventh graf sounded a little funny:

Born in Jamaica and raised in both New York and London, Mr. Boyette, who is a retired United States Army man, speaks in a deep British accent, peppering his conversation with words like "bloke" and "telly."

(My emphasis.)

He's an "Army man"?  Is he made out of green plastic or something?  What's wrong with "Mr. Boyette, retired from the United States Army", or "retired U.S. soldier"?

And, more importantly, who's on the copy desk over there?
